Wouldn't it be nifty if, instead of punching in the id number of a zoner to whom you are addressing a voice mail message, you could say her/his username? If the recognizer hits on more than one name, a menu of the hits could be presented. You hit the number corresponding to the one you want. If there are more than 10 hits, forget it.
Cheers,

That would be cool. That way you don't have to log onto the zone and look up the ID number of the person you want to send a voice mail to.
I like that idea.
Though maybe they could have a directory for the phone.
I like the voice recognition idea, but I think I have thought of a better way if we can't get voice recognition on there. How about a dial by name directory where you can press the numbers which coresponds with the first 3 letters of the user you would like to reach, and then you could be presented with the list as Dave described in post 1.
i know of many systems like that actually. That sounds like it could be doable.
I like the idea. It's a good one. I've actually been thinking of the same thing.
KC8PNL, I like your idea, as well as I like mine. LOL. If the recognission idea won't fly, the dial-by-name directry one might. I've encountered many of these things; they're helpful.
I like the directory idea better though.
why couldn't you make a mix of the two idas? let the person choose which method they wanted to use?
damn. i like every one's ideas. I hope this feature becomes availible. i've sceen both methods in witch are discussed here.
i've seen directory systems that utilize both methods that have been discussed here. Allow me, here and now, to add my support of such an implimintation for the zone by phone system.
Just one question: when you say "names," are we talking real names or zone user names? If the former, I'm not sure this will work, based solely on an idea that some won't be comfortable giving their name to the community at large.
I say go for it!
Jim
OOOOO; Brainstorms; I love them. LOL

Here's hoping the best option will emerge from all this. Jim, I think we're talking Zoner names and/or zoner id numbers here.

I'm bringing this back to the top, but I have 2 objections: Computers are not always able to accurately identify what someone says via voice recognition without training. For instance, if someone says "Hello everyone," the computer might think they said, "Hello er1." Not everyone in the world speaks very clearly. Also, a dial-by-name directory would only work if everyone using it could actually do it (e.g., type the numbers which correspond to the letters of the alphabet and type them the correct number of times).
Ok, firstly, as for voce recognition, what would happen if someone had a zone name like oasdfjiojviofjjrjiodjiojioasdfjioiodvjioasdhijadioj? Not that anyone does currently, but what would you do. Secondly, what if you didn't know their username, only their user ID? And thirdly, as for the dial by name idea, you wouldn't have to press the number more than once. For example, if you were looknig for me, you'dd press 746. At least, that's how I'd imagine it would work. Most people can do that.

Why not just have a listing available for people who have voice amil access. You could do it like "Dial the 4 digit ID number or press 1 pound four a list of current zone by phone users.
Fuzzy,
What you propose sounds easier to code, and may be more accurate than the recognission system.
Objection, Dave: There are over 600 ZBP users, and who wants to listen to a long list of all of them? Remember, most people are using a telephone and not a SIP-enabled softphone, and are therefore using minutes or are paying a phone bill.
I do think we need to have an alternate search method then by entering in the correct ID but all of these ideas sound interesting.
